Arashi Daiko is a highly reputed performance group of Taiko drummers who will make you move to the rhythm of powerful and awe-inspiring Japanese music. The group will animate the dancing and give short presentations during the day. Part of their program includes having the public participate by joining the group while they play.

Bon Odori – This typical Japanese dance, performed in most of the summer festivals throughout Japan, consists of movements that are easy enough for everyone to learn. As the group dances, the public will be invited to join in and participate following the dancers’ lead.

Martial Arts – Different forms of martial arts will be demonstrated for further entertainment.

Another important element to any Japanese Matsuri is the availability of Japanese foods. In this regard, Matsuri organisers have approached Japanese restaurants and organisations in Montreal to participate and offer typical Japanese foods. The Matsuri organising committee will also offer cotton candy, shaved ice and non-alcoholic drinks for the enjoyment of festival goers of all ages.

A game booth will provide Matsuri games and encourage the participation of the younger crowd, free of charge for those 14 years and younger.

A commercial booth selling Japanese Matsuri goods will be on hand to sell such items as: Wind chimes, bell key holders, plastic masks depicting Japanese cartoon characters, yoyos, wooden tops, etc.

Festival-goers will be encouraged to take an active part in the celebration by trying on a Yukata and participating in the dancing. Members of the public will be able to borrow a traditional yukata which our knowledgable volunteers will gladly help them put on. Participants will be shown the moves of the Bon-Odori by our dance groups and encouraged to join the circle of dancers around the Yagura, following the beat of the Taiko drummers.
